Stress Level Zero has hit the mark again with their fantastic physics-based sandbox game, BONELAB from 2022, especially on the Quest platform. However, one notable absence has been their previous hit, BONEWORKS from 2019, which hasn’t made its way to Meta’s latest standalone hardware—until now, that is.
For those who haven’t had the chance to dive into BONEWORKS on a PC VR headset, you’re missing out on a fascinating narrative VR action-adventure. It’s a game that pushes the envelope with its experimental physics mechanics. Players have to navigate environments dynamically, engage in physics-heavy battles, and tackle puzzles where creativity is key.
Recently, studio co-founder Brandon Laatsch shared some exciting updates for 2025 on X. He mentioned that the studio is not only working on updates for its Marrow Engine, which they developed for the Unity engine, but also planning to bring BONEWORKS to the Quest 3 and Quest 3S. This is huge news for fans of the original game.
Brandon’s post also highlighted a few 2025 goals: “Release Patch 7, 8, 9 for BONELAB with Marrow 2, 2.1, 2.2. Bring BONEWORKS to Quest 3 in parallel on Marrow 2. Pre-production for the next game. By x-linking Marrow, we’re aiming for compatibility. BONEWORKS is the nearest kin but is still tricky. Godspeed, SLZ!” These simultaneous efforts are quite ambitious yet thrilling!
What’s intriguing is that Quest users aren’t completely in the dark. Thanks to a dedicated modding community, players with Quest 2 or above can already enjoy BONEWORKS via a mod called ‘Labworks.’ This mod was the result of two years of hard work by indie modder ‘volx64.’
In a generous move, Laatsch confirmed that they have no plans to take down Labworks. He even praised the upcoming Marrow Engine integration for bringing “more change to [BONEWORKS] than a simple port,” which suggests some exciting improvements ahead.
While we’re still waiting for an exact release date, you can be sure we’ll be keeping a close eye on updates from Laatsch’s X account and the studio’s YouTube channel. Stay tuned!
