Following the 2022 release of Dexter: New Blood, which took place a decade after the original show’s conclusion, Paramount and Showtime are now unveiling the prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. The trailer kicks off with some gripping scenes from New Blood, depicting Dexter lying in the snow, blood pooling around him after being shot by his son, Harrison. As he receives medical attention, viewers are taken through a journey of Dexter’s past, which sets the stage for this prequel series. Officially, the plot outlines Dexter: Original Sin as set in 1991 Miami, following Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson) through his transition from a student to a vengeful serial killer. He’s at a point where he can no longer suppress his darker instincts and is forced to reckon with them.
With his father, Harry (played by Christian Slater), as a mentor, Dexter finds a way to satisfy his bloodlust by following a Code: a moral guideline that directs him to eliminate those he believes are beyond redemption, all while avoiding police detection.
