A rumor from a well-known tipster suggests that the plans for upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 downloadable content have been shelved. This would have included another Kombat Pack and a second story expansion. The supposed reason for the cancellation is tied to the lackluster sales of a previous expansion.
### Alleged Cancellation of Upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Story Expansion
According to a post on the Mortal Kombat Leaks subreddit by user _FateUnknown_, there were intentions to release Kombat Pack 3 and a follow-up story expansion. However, both projects have reportedly been dropped, and there are no immediate plans to introduce additional characters.
“Kombat Pack 3 and a second story expansion were initially on the cards. But as of late, everything’s been canceled, with no new characters following Kombat Pack 2,” the leaker revealed. “There might be a kameo or two that still sees the light of day, given some work has been done on them, but nothing’s certain yet.”
When asked why these changes occurred, the answer was blunt: “Khaos Reigns sold poorly.”
Naturally, with rumors like these, it’s best to remain skeptical until official announcements are made. Although it’s worth mentioning that _FateUnknown_ is recognized as a “verified insider” in the subreddit community. Their track record has been somewhat credible previously, so we’ll just have to wait and see what unfolds with the forthcoming guest characters.
The most recent addition to Mortal Kombat 1’s roster is Ghostface, the iconic villain from the Scream franchise. His move set cleverly nods to the films, and his meta-themed fatality is something fans are sure to appreciate.
Coming soon are two more guest fighters for the game. The T-1000 from Terminator 2 and Conan the Barbarian, inspired by the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, are on their way. However, their release dates are still under wraps.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns hit the shelves in September. It includes the story expansion and Kombat Pack 2, featuring characters like Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian. There’s currently a Black Friday deal offering the base game and expansion at a 50% discount.
