Glover is making a triumphant return, now available on the Nintendo Switch thanks to Interactive Studios, Piko Interactive, and QUByte Interactive. Let’s dive into our review and find out what this puzzle-platformer has to offer!
Originally developed by Interactive Studios, also known as Dizzy Entertainment and Blitz Games, Glover has a fascinating history. It was created by the Oliver Twins—Andrew and Philip Oliver—famous for the Dizzy series. In this 3D puzzle platformer, you step into the shoes of Glover, navigating through various levels by skillfully moving a ball from one point to another.
First launched in 1998 in collaboration with Hasbro Interactive for the Nintendo 64, Glover later appeared under the Atari Interactive label on PlayStation. Fast forward to 2025, and Glover is making a comeback on the Switch as part of QUByte Interactive’s Classic series. We’re off to explore the Crystal Kingdom once more!
In this adventure, you’ll be on a quest to retrieve lost crystals vital to the Kingdom’s power. In a calamitous potion mishap caused by the wizard, these crystals are scattered, and Glover himself gets blasted away. Fortunately, Glover utilizes magic to morph these crystals into bouncing rubber balls. What’s Glover’s role? He’s one of the enchanted gloves assisting the wizard, while his counterpart, Glovel, turns malevolent as Cross-Stitch after a cauldron mishap.
Your mission involves exploring six unique worlds: Atlantis, Carnival, Pirates, Prehistoric, Fortress of Fear, and Out of This World. Completing each world involves not only clearing all levels but also finding collectible Garibs and tackling bonus levels. Achieving a 100% completion rate will be a rewarding challenge for those who seek it.
The game mechanics are intuitive, with the left stick controlling Glover, while the right stick allows camera adjustments. Zoom using the X button, jump with A, and dribble the ball with B. A ground pound can be executed via ZR, and by standing on the ball using L, you can pull off impressive moves. Holding down B lets you grab and toss the ball, while A allows for a mighty slap to help cross wider gaps. You’ll discover various ball types by pressing R as you progress, although Glover’s primary companion will be the versatile rubber ball.
As Glover makes its way back onto the gaming scene, it’s fun to rediscover what made it special in the first place. The Nintendo Switch version, priced at $19.99, also comes with an Extras section filled with artwork, featuring bosses, characters, and concepts related to the game—perfect for a trip down memory lane.
In essence, Glover is a classic 3D platformer that can feel a bit dated, yet retains a certain charm. Whether you’re a nostalgic fan or a newcomer, there’s plenty of entertainment to be had in the whimsical adventure of this magical glove. Enjoy your journey in the Crystal Kingdom, and happy gaming!
