After catching “A Minecraft Movie” at the theater, I decided to hang around a bit to see if there would be any extra scenes after the credits rolled. Jared Hess, known for “Napoleon Dynamite,” along with his team of writers, crafted a tale about Steve (played by Jack Black) and his new pals from Chuglas, Idaho, as they dart through the Overworld and into The Nether. I was curious if they’d give us a peek into The End or some other intriguing aspect of the Minecraft universe. Maybe Hess would take a page out of Marvel’s book and hint at the creation of a Minecraft Cinematic Universe.
While most of the audience made their way out of the theater once the credits began, I’m glad I stuck around. Those who left missed out on a surprise that was well worth the wait.
Does “A Minecraft Movie” have a mid-credits scene?
Yes, it does, and if you leave too soon, you’ll miss out on a neat cameo. In this scene, the vice principal of Chuglas’ school, Marlene (played by Jennifer Coolidge), prepares breakfast for her new love interest, who happens to be a villager. Her ex-husband, the school’s art teacher Mr. Gunchie (Hiram Garcia), appears to ask for a do-over. However, the villager, previously only capable of making garbled sounds, speaks eloquently with the distinctive voice of Matt Berry, known for “What We Do in the Shadows.” He declares how Marlene’s love has given him the power to speak, while Marlene humorously now communicates in villager. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s another treat in store after all the credits have rolled.
Does “A Minecraft Movie” have a post-credits scene?
Indeed, it does, popping up right when the theater lights start coming back on. We see Steve, played by Jack Black, returning from the Overworld to a house he had once abandoned, only to discover it has been sold to new owners. After knocking on the door, he’s greeted warmly by the new resident, a woman with red hair and a green shirt. She never fully turns to reveal her face to the camera. As they chat, Steve learns she’s aware of the chest he left in the attic. Introducing herself as Alex, she welcomes him in.
For those who might not know, Alex was introduced as the second default skin for Minecraft players, following Steve. Often seen in promotional materials and game art, Alex serves as a blank canvas for players to imagine themselves within the game world. While Steve was busy crafting and creating diverse structures in the Overworld, including a theme park, Alex has been in the real world, hinting at her potential role in a future sequel.
Although “A Minecraft Movie” wraps up its story nicely, this post-credits scene teases the possibility of more adventures. Whether they’ll involve a journey back to the Nether or venturing into The End isn’t clear, but it certainly seems like Alex and that mysterious attic chest are bound to play crucial roles if a follow-up film materializes.
