The development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is moving along smoothly, and so far, the project hasn’t faced any major hurdles. Although there’s no specific release date yet, based on Square Enix’s past launch patterns, we might see the final part of the FF7 remake trilogy as early as 2027.
During a recent update, a top Square Enix executive expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the trilogy’s third installment. This statement came amidst an announcement regarding the ongoing work on the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
The groundwork for the last chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 remake began around June 2022, transitioning to full production shortly after the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in February 2024. Since then, Square Enix has been occasionally sharing updates on this highly anticipated RPG.
In line with this trend, Yoshinori Kitase, the series producer, along with Naoki Hamaguchi, the game director, recently shared the latest with Famitsu, a Japanese publication. Hamaguchi mentioned he’s pleased with the project’s current state, noting that the work on the third part is progressing “very well.” He assured fans that everything is on track, without any significant delays so far, though he held back from providing a definite release timeline.
Back in 2024, Hamaguchi had announced that the story for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 was complete. Kitase echoed this in the recent interview, reaffirming that the narrative is set and expressing his satisfaction with it. He’s confident that fans will appreciate the final output, even though he chose not to reveal any specifics.
The original Final Fantasy 7 Remake took about five years of active development, not counting pre-production. However, Square Enix wrapped up Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in roughly four years, primarily because they reused some assets from the earlier installment. This efficiency was crucial in speeding up the second entry’s development, despite the setbacks caused by the global pandemic in 2020, which delayed numerous projects.
It’s possible that the trilogy’s concluding chapter could be available to players as early as 2027. Similar to its predecessors, this installment will likely be an exclusive on PlayStation for a limited time before transitioning to PC and possibly other platforms. Notably, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth expanded to multiple platforms earlier today, January 23, with its launch on PC.
In the latest installment, players will explore a rich and expansive world in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, a standalone chapter in the remake series. This second entry retells the beloved RPG’s story across three distinct parts, featuring iconic characters like Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith, and Red XIII. Journeying beyond the dystopian city of Midgar, they now pursue Sephiroth, the enigmatic swordsman from Cloud’s past. Designed to captivate both series veterans and newcomers alike, this adventure promises cinematic storytelling, fast-paced combat, and immersive exploration.
