Despite recent reports from IGN, Nintendo has not provided any official updates regarding the rescheduling of the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date in North America. These reports pointed to information from Nintendo’s own pre-order page FAQ, suggesting that the first round of invitations for their pre-order program would start going out on May 8th. Interestingly, this date has been on the FAQ since the page was publicly launched back on April 2nd—two days before any delay announcements. We’ve checked this by looking at an archived version of the website using the Wayback Machine.
The initial delay in Switch 2 pre-orders was a result of tariffs imposed on several countries by President Donald Trump, which would have significantly affected the shipment of Switch 2 consoles to the United States. Many of these tariffs have now been substantially reduced following a 90-day hold, yet Nintendo hasn’t provided any new pre-order details for North America.
