Capcom recently dropped some intriguing hints about the possible return of Lagiacrus, a beloved monster from the Monster Hunter series, slated to appear in Monster Hunter Wilds sometime in 2025. Given the tremendous success of Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s no surprise that Capcom seems committed to supporting the game with fresh content for the foreseeable future. This could pave the way for Lagiacrus to finally make its comeback in the widely acclaimed action RPG.
Launched in February, Monster Hunter Wilds shattered sales records for Capcom, moving over eight million copies within just three days. Although some players have found the game a bit on the easy side, the vast majority of critics have been full of praise, leading to an impressive 89 average score on OpenCritic.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ booming success pretty much guarantees a slew of updates, and recently, Capcom teased a glimpse of what’s in store during a trailer unveiling Title Update 1. Enthusiasts of the series might have noticed a familiar silhouette resembling Lagiacrus toward the end of the video. This leviathan-like creature, reminiscent of a giant sea dragon that breathes electricity, isn’t expected in the immediate patch but is anticipated for Title Update 2. Lagiacrus initially won fans’ hearts when introduced in Monster Hunter 3, and Capcom had even entertained the idea of bringing it to Monster Hunter World before shelving it due to animation hurdles.
Title Update 1 for Monster Hunter Wilds is marked for release on April 4. Gamers can look forward to a few exciting additions, including the grand introduction of a hub where players can meet, grab craft items, dive into mini-games, and more. Plus, there’s the introduction of a new monster—Mizutsune, which made a splash in Monster Hunter Rise and has gained popularity thanks to its unique water-based abilities.
On the community front, the developers have laid out a packed schedule for new Event and Challenge Quests. From March 19 to April 1, players can dive into the “Like a Fire Hidden by Sand” event, while “Congalala Cravings” kicks off on March 26, wrapping up by April 1. April will also feature four additional events: “Anguish and Atrocity,” “King of a Faraway Sky,” “When Do Quematrice Sing,” and “Doshaguma of the Hollow.” Whether Monster Hunter Wilds will maintain its release buzz throughout the remainder of 2025 remains to be seen, but Capcom is certainly going all out to keep things lively and engaging for its player base.
