Apple has unveiled the latest update to its Vision Pro system, making visionOS 2.4 available for everyone to download. This update marks a significant milestone with the introduction of Apple Intelligence features to the headset. It also includes an iPhone companion app to simplify sharing and using the headset, along with a fresh addition called the Spatial Gallery, designed for curating spatial content for immersive viewing.
Back in October 2024, Apple Intelligence features were rolled out to iPhones, iPads, and Macs, but the Vision Pro headset was noticeably absent from this update. It was uncertain whether these features would ever make it to the headset. Thankfully, that changes today. VisionOS 2.4 brings the same suite of Apple Intelligence tools that users have come to expect on their other devices, including text-based tools like proofreading, rewriting, and summarizing, as well as creative tools like Image Playground and Genmoji.
One of the standout features of this update addresses some of the common frustrations users have experienced with the headset.
Introducing the Spatial Gallery App
The new Spatial Gallery app is a standout addition, offering a curated collection of spatial (or stereoscopic) content, showcasing stories and experiences from well-known brands like Red Bull, Cirque du Soleil, and Porsche. Apple has also partnered with Apple Originals, giving users behind-the-scenes access to shows like Severance, The Studio, and The Morning Show, and offering engaging talks from artists such as Bad Bunny, Charli XCX, and Keith Urban.
Vision Pro Companion App for iPhone
Mirroring the setup for Apple Watch, Vision Pro now boasts a companion app for iPhone and iPad users. This app serves as a convenient hub to discover new apps and entertainment without having to wear the headset. It’s also a handy resource for tips, tricks, and crucial support information like software version and serial numbers.
Enhancements in Guest User Experience
A notable feature since the Vision Pro’s inception has been its ‘Guest Mode,’ designed to make it easy for owners to share the headset with others, tailoring the experience specifically for the guest while controlling accessible apps. VisionOS 2.4, coupled with iOS 18.4, enhances this experience by allowing headset owners to initiate a Guest Mode session directly from their iPhone. This update also introduces remote View Mirroring, letting owners see exactly what the guest is viewing in the headset. Previously, this required the owner to guide the guest through the headset’s menu—an inconvenience that’s now a thing of the past.
New Apple Immersive Video Content
With visionOS 2.4, Apple also spotlights upcoming releases in its own Apple Immersive Video series. A key highlight is VIP: Yankee Stadium, set to launch on April 4th. This exclusive content offers a comprehensive look into the famed Bronx ballpark, highlighting not just the athletes, but the fans and staff that bring it to life. Apple is also gearing up to release Bono: Stories of Surrender on May 30th—a unique documentary about the U2 frontman available both as a standard video on Apple TV+ and as an immersive experience on Vision Pro.
